Hymnus
Iam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.

Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.

Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.

Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.

Deo Patri sit glória,
Eiúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Et nunc et in perpétuum.
Amen.
Hymn
Now in the sun's new dawning ray,
Lowly of heart, our God we pray
That he from harm may keep us free
In all the deeds this day shall see.

May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
His favouring care our guardian be,
Lest our eyes feed on vanity.

May every heart be pure from sin
And folly find no place therein:
Scant need of food, excess denied,
Wear down in us the body's pride.

That when the light of day is gone,
And night in course shall follow on.
We, free from cares the world affords,
May chant the praise that is our Lord's.

All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen.
Psalmi {ex Psalterio secundum tempora}
Ant. Ecce in núbibus cæli * Dóminus véniet cum potestáte magna, allelúia.
Psalmus 1 [1]
℣. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Psalms {from the Psalter for the season of the Church year}
Ant. Behold in the clouds of heaven * the Lord is coming with great power and majesty, alleluia.
Psalm 1 [1]
1:1 Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, * nor sat in the chair of pestilence.
1:2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, * and on his law he shall meditate day and night.
1:3 And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, * which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season.
1:3 And his leaf shall not fall off: * and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.
1:4 Not so the wicked, not so: * but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.
1:5 Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
1:6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: * and the way of the wicked shall perish.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Psalmus 2 [2]
2:3 Dirumpámus víncula eórum: * et proiciámus a nobis iugum ipsórum.
2:4 Qui hábitat in cælis, irridébit eos: * et Dóminus subsannábit eos.
2:7 Dóminus dixit ad me: * Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te.
2:8 Póstula a me, et dabo tibi gentes hereditátem tuam, * et possessiónem tuam términos terræ.
2:9 Reges eos in virga férrea, * et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos.
2:11 Servíte Dómino in timóre: * et exsultáte ei cum tremóre.
℣. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Psalm 2 [2]
2:1 Why have the Gentiles raged, * and the people devised vain things?
2:2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, * against the Lord and against his Christ.
2:3 Let us break their bonds asunder: * and let us cast away their yoke from us.
2:4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: * and the Lord shall deride them.
2:5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them in his rage.
2:6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, * preaching his commandment.
2:7 The Lord hath said to me: * Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
2:8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, * and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.
2:9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, * and shalt break them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
2:10 And now, O ye kings, understand: * receive instruction, you that judge the earth.
2:11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: * and rejoice unto him with trembling.
2:12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
2:13 When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, * blessed are all they that trust in him.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Psalmus 6 [3]
6:2 Dómine, ne in furóre tuo árguas me, * neque in ira tua corrípias me.
6:3 Miserére mei, Dómine, quóniam infírmus sum: * sana me, Dómine, quóniam conturbáta sunt ossa mea.
6:5 Convértere, Dómine, et éripe ánimam meam: * salvum me fac propter misericórdiam tuam.
6:9 Discédite a me, omnes, qui operámini iniquitátem: * quóniam exaudívit Dóminus vocem fletus mei.
6:10 Exaudívit Dóminus deprecatiónem meam, * Dóminus oratiónem meam suscépit.
6:11 Erubéscant, et conturbéntur veheménter omnes inimíci mei: * convertántur et erubéscant valde velóciter.
℣. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. Ecce in núbibus cæli Dóminus véniet cum potestáte magna, allelúia.
Psalm 6 [3]
6:2 Lord, rebuke me not in thy indignation, * nor chastise me in thy wrath.
6:3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak: * heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
6:4 And my soul is troubled exceedingly: * but thou, O Lord, how long?
6:5 Turn to me, O Lord, and deliver my soul: * O save me for thy mercy’s sake.
6:6 For there is no one in death, that is mindful of thee: * and who shall confess to thee in hell?
6:7 I have laboured in my groanings, every night I will wash my bed: * I will water my couch with my tears.
6:8 My eye is troubled through indignation: * I have grown old amongst all my enemies.
6:9 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity: * for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.
6:10 The Lord hath heard my supplication: * the Lord hath received my prayer.
6:11 Let all my enemies be ashamed, and be very much troubled: * let them be turned back, and be ashamed very speedily.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Martyrologium (anticip.)
December 11th 2018, the 4th day of the Moon, were born into the better life:

At Rome, the holy Confessor Pope Damasus (of Spain), who condemned the arch-heretic Apollinaris, and restored to his papacy Peter, Pope of Alexandria, who had been driven into exile moreover, he found the bodies of many holy martyrs, and caused to be engraved upon their tombstones verses composed by himself. (He died in the year 384.) Likewise at Rome, the holy martyr Thrason, who fed at his own expense Christians who were in prison or sent to work in the baths, or at other public works. He was arrested by order of the Emperor Maximian, and crowned with martyrdom along with two others named Pontian and Pretextatus, (about the year 293.)
At Amiens, under the same Emperor Maximian, the holy martyrs Victoricus and Fuscian. Rictiovarus the President had iron spikes driven into their nostrils and ears, and redhot nails hammered into their temples after which their eyes were torn out, their bodies pierced with darts, and their heads cut off, and so they and holy Gentian, their host, passed away to be for ever with the Lord, (in the year 303.)
(At Astrahara, near Persepolis,) in Persia, the holy martyr Barsabas, (with ten monks, whose Abbot he was, in the year 342, at the beginning of the great persecution under Sapor II.)
In Spain, the holy martyr Eutychius.
At Piacenza, holy Sabinus, Bishop of that see, (in the fourth century,) famous for miracles.
At Constantinople, (about the year 489,) holy Daniel the Stylite.
℣. And elsewhere many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.
℟. Thanks be to God.

Holy Mary and all the Saints, intercede for us with the Lord, our God, so that we may merit His help and salvation, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Regula

Lectio brevis {ex Psalterio secundum tempora}

In fine:
℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
℟. Deo grátias.
Regula
The Rule of our Holy Father Benedict. Chapter 57: Concerning Artificers In the Monastery

Let artificers, if there are any in the monastery, with all humility work at their arts, if the abbot shall have given permission. But if any one of their number is puffed up by reason of his knowledge of his art, in that he seems to confer some favour upon the monastery, let such an one as this be removed from exercising that art and not engage in it anew unless by chance the abbot again order him to do so when he has become humble. And if any of the artificers’ work is to be sold, let those who are to effect the transaction see to it that they presume not to bring about any fraudulent act. Let them be mindful always of Ananias and Sapphira, lest haply the death which they incurred in the body they themselves and indeed all who shall have committed any fraud in regard to monastic property should suffer in the soul. And let not the evil of avarice creep in in the matter of the prices charged for the goods; but let them always be sold somewhat more cheaply than they can be sold by others who are seculars, that in all things God may be glorified.
