Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Credo in Spíritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclésiam cathólicam, Sanctórum communiónem, remissiónem peccatórum, carnis resurrectiónem, vitam ætérnam. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried: he descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty: from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Thereafter, with hearable voice, the Versicle is said:
℣. O Lord, + open thou my lips.
℟. And my mouth shall declare thy praise.
℣. O God, ✠ come to my assistance;
℟. O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Alleluia.

Ant. For the conversion of the Teacher of the Gentiles, * let us praise our God.
Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
Ant. For the conversion of the Teacher of the Gentiles, * let us praise our God.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. For the Lord will not cast off his people: for in his hand are all the ends of the earth, and the heights of the mountains are his.
Ant. let us praise our God.
For the sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. (genuflect) Come let us adore and fall down: and weep before the Lord that made us: For he is the Lord our God: and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Ant. For the conversion of the Teacher of the Gentiles, * let us praise our God.
Today if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts: As in the provocation, according to the day of temptation in the wilderness: where your fathers tempted me, they proved me, and saw my works.
Ant. let us praise our God.
Forty years long was I offended with that generation, and I said: These always err in heart. And these men have not known my ways: so I swore in my wrath that they shall not enter into my rest.
Ant. For the conversion of the Teacher of the Gentiles, * let us praise our God.

Hymnus {ex Commune aut Festo}
Egrégie Doctor, Paule, mores ínstrue,
Et nostra tecum péctora in cælum trahe;
Veláta dum merídiem cernat fides,
Et solis instar sola regnet cáritas.
Sit Trinitáti sempitérna glória,
Honor, potéstas atque jubilátio,
In unitáte, quæ gubérnat ómnia,
Per univérsa sæculórum sǽcula.

Hymn {from the Common or Feast}
Our souls' great teacher, Paul, our guide in wisdom's ways,
Teach us, our fainting hearts, to heaven's glad clime to raise,
Till faith in clearest light her bright meridian gains,
And love with sun-like fire within each bosom reigns.
All honour, might, and power, and hymns of joy we bring,
While to the Trinity eternal praise we sing;
He rules the universe in wondrous Unity,
And shall, throughout the days of all eternity.
Amen.

Psalms with lections {Antiphons and psalms from the Common or Feast}
Nocturn I.
Ant. He That wrought effectually * in Peter to the Apostleship, the Same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles, and they perceived the grace that was given unto me of the Lord Christ.
Psalm 18 [1]
18:2 The heavens shew forth the glory of God, * and the firmament declareth the work of his hands.
18:3 Day to day uttereth speech, * and night to night sheweth knowledge.
18:4 There are no speeches nor languages, * where their voices are not heard.
18:5 Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth: * and their words unto the ends of the world.
18:6 He hath set his tabernacle in the sun: * and he, as a bridegroom coming out of his bride chamber,
18:6 Hath rejoiced as a giant to run the way: * his going out is from the end of heaven,
18:7 And his circuit even to the end thereof: * and there is no one that can hide himself from his heat.
18:8 The law of the Lord is unspotted, converting souls: * the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones.
18:9 The justices of the Lord are right, rejoicing hearts: * the commandment of the Lord is lightsome, enlightening the eyes.
18:10 The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for ever and ever: * the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
18:11 More to be desired than gold and many precious stones: * and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
18:12 For thy servant keepeth them, * and in keeping them there is a great reward.
18:13 Who can understand sins? from my secret ones cleanse me, O Lord: * and from those of others spare thy servant.
18:14 If they shall have no dominion over me, then shall I be without spot: * and I shall be cleansed from the greatest sin.
18:15 And the words of my mouth shall be such as may please: * and the meditation of my heart always in thy sight.
18:15 O Lord, my helper, * and my redeemer.

De Actibus Apostolórum
Act 9:1-5
4 Et cadens in terram audívit vocem dicéntem sibi: Saule, Saule, quid me perséqueris?
5 Qui dixit: Quis es, dómine? Et ille: Ego sum Jesus, quem tu perséqueris: durum est tibi contra stímulum calcitráre.

Reading 1
Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 9:1-5
1 And Saul, as yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
2 And asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues: that if he found any men and women of this way, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
3 And as he went on his journey, it came to pass that he drew nigh to Damascus; and suddenly a light from heaven shined round about him.
4 And falling on the ground, he heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 Who said: Who art thou, Lord? And he: I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. It is hard for thee to kick against the goad.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. He That wrought effectually in Peter to the Apostleship, the Same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles,
* And they perceived the grace that was given unto me of the Lord Christ.
℣. The grace of God which was bestowed upon me was not in vain, but His grace abideth ever in me.
℟. And they perceived the grace that was given unto me of the Lord Christ.

℣. Jube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio. Unigénitus Dei Fílius nos benedícere et adjuváre dignétur.
℟. Amen.

Acts 9:10-16
10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision: Ananias. And he said: Behold I am here, Lord.
11 And the Lord said to him: Arise, and go into the street that is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas, one named Saul of Tarsus. For behold he prayeth.
12 And he saw a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hands upon him, that he might receive his sight.
13 But Ananias answered: Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints in Jerusalem.
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that invoke thy name.
15 And the Lord said to him: Go thy way; for this man is to me a vessel of election, to carry my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness:
* Which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day.

℟. Per quem omnes gentes cognovérunt grátiam Dei.

℣. Grant, Lord, a blessing.
Benediction. May God the Father Omnipotent, be to us merciful and clement.
℟. Amen.

From the Sermons of St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo.
14th on the Saints
We have this day heard read out of the Acts of the Apostles how that the Apostle Paul, from being a persecutor of the Christians, was changed into a preacher of Christ. Christ laid low the persecutor, that He might raise him up a teacher of His Church. He smote and healed him, slew him and made him alive again. For the Lord Christ is that Lamb That was Himself slain by the wolves, and That now turneth the wolves into lambs. Now was fulfilled in Paul that which was clearly spoken in prophecy by the Patriarch Jacob, when he blessed his children, laying hands indeed on them which then were, but looking forward to the things which were yet for to come. Paul beareth witness of himself that he was of the tribe of Benjamin, Rom. xi. 1, and when Jacob blessed his sons, and came to bless Benjamin, he said: Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf. Gen. xlix. 27.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. O Holy Apostle Paul, thou art a chosen vessel unto God, to preach the Gospel throughout the whole world
* Through whom all nations have known the grace of God.
℣. Pray for us to God Who hath chosen thee.
℟. Through whom all nations have known the grace of God.

℣. Jube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio. Christus perpétuæ det nobis gáudia vitæ.
℟. Amen.
Lectio 5
Quid ergo? lupus rapax semper?
℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
℟. Deo grátias.
℟. Grátia Dei sum id quod sum:
* Et grátia ejus in me vacua non fuit, sed semper in me manet.
℟. Et grátia ejus in me vacua non fuit, sed semper in me manet.
|
℣. Grant, Lord, a blessing.
Benediction. May Christ to all His people give, for ever in His sight to live.
℟. Amen.
Reading 5
What then? Is Benjamin a wolf that shall ravin for ever? God forbid. In the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil. This is exactly what was fulfilled in the Apostle Paul. If it please you, we will now consider how in the morning he devoured the prey, and at night divided the spoil. Here morning and evening are put for the beginning and the end. So we may read, In the beginning he shall devour the prey, and at the end he shall divide the spoil. First, then, in the beginning, he devoured the prey. So it is written that he received letters from the chief priests and went forth, that wheresoever he should find any Christians, he might bring them bound unto the priests, that they might be punished.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. By the grace of God I am what I am.
* And His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain, but abideth ever in me.
℣. He that wrought effectually in Peter to the Apostleship, the Same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles.
℟. And His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain, but abideth ever in me.

℣. Jube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio. Ignem sui amóris accéndat Deus in córdibus nostris.

℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.

℣. Grant, Lord, a blessing.
Benediction. May the Spirit's fire Divine in our hearts enkindled shine.
℟. Amen.
Reading 6
He went breathing out threatenings and slaughter, yea, truly, devouring the prey. When also they stoned Stephen, the first Martyr that laid down his life for Christ's name's sake, Saul was consenting unto his death, and, as though it contented him not to stone him, he kept the clothes of all them that did it, urging them on more than if he had joined them. So in the morning he devoured the prey. How in the evening did he divide the spoil? Struck down by the voice of Christ from heaven, ravining no more, he falleth upon his face, cast down to be raised up, smitten to be healed.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. Saul, who also is called Paul, was made a great preacher

℣. Proving that This is very Christ, the Son of God.

96:10 You that love the Lord, hate evil: * the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints, he will deliver them out of the hand of the sinner.

℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Ant. Lest I should be exalted above measure through the greatness of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me; for this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me and the Lord said unto me: Paul, My grace is sufficient for thee.

Homilia in Natali S. Benedicti Ep.

From the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matt 19:27-29
In that time, Peter said to Jesus said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have? And so on.
Sermon of the Venerable Bede, Priest (at Jarrow)
Homily for St. Benedict's Birth-day
If thou wilt be perfect, saith Christ, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and come and follow Me and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. Matth. xix. 21. Yea, treasure that passeth not away! Unto such saith Jesus, at the questioning of Peter Amen I say unto you, that ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. He taught them, which work for His Name's sake in this life, to look for their reward in another life that is, in the regeneration. In the regeneration! when we who have been born dying creatures into a dying life, shall in the resurrection be born again into an undying life.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. O Holy Apostle Paul, Preacher of the truth, and teacher of the Gentiles,
* Pray for us to God, Who hath chosen thee, that we may be made worthy of the grace of God.
℣. O Holy Apostle Paul, thou art a chosen vessel unto God, and a Preacher of the truth.
℟. Pray for us to God Who hath chosen thee, that we may be made worthy of the grace of God.

℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
℟. Deo grátias.
℟. Damasci, præpósitus gentis Aretæ regis vóluit me comprehéndere:

Reading 8
And soothly, it is a just retribution, that they, who, while they were yet here, have for Christ's sake set no store by being great among men, should there by Christ be singularly glorified to be the assessors of His judgment-seat, even they whom nothing here could turn aside from being the followers of His footsteps. Nevertheless, let there be no man that believeth that the twelve Apostles only, among whom Matthias holdeth that place from which Judas by transgression fell, Acts i. 25, that they only shall judge, even as the twelve tribes of Israel shall not alone be judged for then were the tribe of Levi, which is the thirteenth, unjudged.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king was desirous to apprehend me

℣. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ knoweth that I lie not.
℟. And by the brethren in a basket was I let down by the wall.

℟. And by the brethren in a basket was I let down by the wall.

Lectio 9
℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
℟. Deo grátias.

℣. Grant, Lord, a blessing.
Benediction. May He that is the Angels' King to that high realm His people bring.
℟. Amen.
Reading 9
Moreover, then, were Paul, who is the thirteenth Apostle, deprived of all part in the judgment; whereas he saith of himself: Know ye not that we shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life? But it behoveth us to know that every one who hath forsaken all and followed Christ, as did the Apostles, shall also come with Him to judgment, even as every man shall stand at His judgment seat. And the Scriptures use often to signify all by this number twelve; by the twelve thrones of the Apostles are signified the thrones of all them that shall judge; and by the twelve tribes of Israel, the whole number of them that shall be judged.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
Te Deum
We praise thee, O God, * we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship thee, * the Father everlasting.
To thee all Angels cry aloud, * the Heavens, and all the Powers therein.
To thee Cherubim and Seraphim * continually do cry.
bow head Holy, Holy, Holy * Lord God of Sabaoth;
Heaven and earth are full * of the Majesty of thy glory.
The glorious company of the Apostles * praise thee.
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets * praise thee.
The noble army of Martyrs * praise thee.
The holy Church throughout all the world * doth acknowledge thee;
The Father, * of an infinite Majesty.
Thine honourable, true, * and only Son;
Also the Holy Ghost, * the Comforter.
Thou art the King of Glory, * O Christ.
Thou art the everlasting * Son of the Father.
During the following verse all make a profound bow: When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, * thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb.
When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, * thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God, * in the glory of the Father.
We believe that thou shalt come * to be our Judge.
Kneel for the following verse
We therefore pray thee, help thy servants, * whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious Blood.
Make them to be numbered with thy Saints, * in glory everlasting.
O Lord, save thy people, * and bless thine heritage.
Govern them, * and lift them up for ever.
Day by day * we magnify thee;
During the following verse, by local custom, all make a profound bow. And we worship thy Name * ever, world without end.
Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us * this day without sin.
O Lord, have mercy upon us, * have mercy upon us.
O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us, * as our trust is in thee.
O Lord, in thee have I trusted, * let me never be confounded.

After the hymn Te Deum laudamus or the ninth or third responsory has been recited, one begins directly with the Laudes, with the exception of Christmas Night: in this one prays the Oratio and then the Christmas mass is celebrated as it is stated at the appropriate place.

℣. O Lord, hear my prayer.
℟. And let my cry come unto thee.
Let us pray.
O God, Who, through the teaching of the Blessed Apostle Paul, hast caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world, grant, we beseech thee, that we, having his wonderful conversion as on this day in remembrance, may show forth our thankfulness unto thee for the same, by following the holy example which he hath set.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
